Dry suits are designed to keep you warm during dives of longer duration or in colder water. Diving a dry suit requires a different approach to weighting, buoyancy control, and gear maintenance and repair.
Divers must complete the Dry Suit Diver Manual and DVD prior to participating in the course. Afterwards, students will take part in a lecture/discussion with an instructor covering details about suit maintenance, repair, donning and doffing, and buoyancy control. Students will also learn about different types of suits and how to choose one that fits their respective needs.
Upon completion of the knowledge development, students will learn and demonstrate a set of skills particular to dry suit diving. It also gives students a chance to practice buoyancy habits in a controlled environment.
Open Water Dives
To complete the certification, divers must participate in two open water dives to demonstrate the skills taught in the confined water section as well as proper buoyancy control. These are done locally at Dutch Springs, a scuba park near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, every three weeks throughout the dive season from mid-May through late October. The two dives are done in one day and can be done on any day of one of our certification weekends throughout the season from May through October.
Aside from personal gear (mask, fins, boots, and snorkel) and basic scuba gear (BC, regulators, dive computer), students will need a dry suit and a dry suit inflator hose to be attached to the regulator. For the confined water portion, Pan Aqua will provide the basic scuba gear, the dry suit, and the dry suit hose. Students will need to rent whatever gear necessary for the open water component, including the dry suit.
Divers must be at least PADI Open Water certified and be a minimum of 10 years of age.
Classroom and Pool: $225 (includes course materials and dry suit)
Open Water Dives: $199 (includes transportation, entrance fees to Dutch Springs, instructional fees, certification costs, tanks, and weights)
Basic Scuba Gear (BC, Regulators, and Dive Computer) and Drysuit.
We do the dives locally May through October. Class and pool can be scheduled privately for an additional $30.
