One of the hallmarks of a great diver is the ability to manage and resolve problems in the water without undue stress. That’s exactly what the Rescue Diver class teaches. You will emerge with more confidence in the water and the skills to make you a better diver. Also, the rescue diver course is a pre-requisite for the Master Diver certification, the highest, non-professional rating in recreational scuba diving.
Students can choose between the PADI Rescue Diver Manual or the PADI Rescue Diver e-Learning.
Prior to completing the open water practicum, students will attend two sessions of lectures. During that time you will learn the fundamentals of in-water rescue, how to manage stress in yourself and other divers, and how to manage the scene of an emergency.
During the practicum portion of the class, which takes place at Dutch Springs, students will be afforded the opportunity to practice skills pertinent to handling an in-water emergency. These include bringing an unresponsive diver from depth, in-water rescue breaths, and lending surface support to an emergency situation. Students will take part in scenarios that are designed to replicate real life emergencies, so that if they are ever placed in an emergency situation, they will better be equipped to handle the circumstances of the incident
In addition to basic scuba equipment (BC, regulators, dive computer, wetsuit), which you can rent from Pan Aqua Diving, students will need their own personal gear. These items include a mask, fins, boots, and snorkel. Students will also be taught to handle rescue equipment such as buoys, throw bags, and other safety equipment.
Adventure Divers with navigation who are at least 12 years of age and possess a current Emergency First Responder certification are eligible to take the Rescue Diver Course.
